In the
wake of recent flu vaccine shortages, a new Medicare demonstration
project will cover antiviral medications for beneficiaries,
especially ones who lack drug coverage. Each beneficiary
can fill two prescriptions of amantadine, rimantadine, oseltamivir
or zanamivir at a Medicare-participating pharmacy. Medicare
insists that adequate supplies of flu vaccine are now available,
and the vaccine is the best defense against the flu.
